Professor Rowshan Ara had been serving under the Directorate General of Health Services under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in different capacities. She has been working in public health field for the last 18 years. She has acquired wide range of knowledge and experience on public health issues, programs, methods, procedures, and standards within area of expertise, knowledge and understanding of all facets of public health programmes and ability to design, conduct and evaluate independently public health programmes. She developed the competence to collaborate and provide technical assistance to carryout public health programs in Bangladesh in collaboration with different national international & multi-national NGOs, development partners, UN & other government agencies.
For five years she had worked at National Institute of Preventive & Social Medicine (NIPSOM) at the Departments of Reproductive & Child Health and at Nutrition & Biochemistry as Assistant Professor. As assistant professor the main responsibilities are teaching, training of post-graduate public health students. Plan, and develop research protocols for individual and for the institution and also conducted individual research and institutional research and supervised public researches of the students.

Dr. Rahman started his key profession as university teacher and he has been in this profession for more than 15 years. He teaches several courses under the broader Geography discipline i.e. Urban Geography, Geography of Housing and Shelter, World Regional Pattern, Research Methodology, Anthropogeograpy and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Apart from his classroom teaching he has been supervising a number of undergraduate and post-graduate research students on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) as well as different urban development and environmental management related issues. He has been continuously updating and sharing his views on the above mentioned research areas in different national and international conferences, seminars, workshops and symposiums. Besides, he offered his specialized knowledge and shared his views through consultancy services with a number of development organizations and NGOs especially in the field of WASH. His gained knowledge and activities in the above mentioned field helped him to recognize as one of the leading expert in the field of water, sanitation and hygiene. He is life member of Bangladesh National Geographical Association (BNGA), Bangladesh Geographical Society (BGS), Jahangirnagar University Geographical Association (JUGA), and founder/core member of Geo-ecological Research Team (GeRT).
Dr. Rahman’s core research interest focuses on the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in urban informal/low-income settlements. He particularly emphasizes social-technological-governance dimensions and link them with existing water and sanitation systems. He also developed his expertise in assessing sustainable sanitation technologies, governance as well as strategic options for WASH related project planning and implementation. Over the years, he has been engaged in water, sanitation and hygiene research and consultancy assignments run by donor agencies, development organizations and NGOs in Bangladesh. Currently, he is working as a sanitation specialist in a project titled ‘Scanning and Mapping the WASH Situation in Coastal Bangladesh: Problems and Potential’ funded by the ICCO Cooperation, The Netherlands. Apart from his research and consultancy he also disseminated his knowledge in various events and he has been working there as facilitator/tutor where the targeted audiences/trainees are from different development organizations, NGOs, CBOs and the grassroots people. Dr. Rahman conducted few training sessions on water, sanitation, hygiene, latrine construction, installation, operation and management, which was arranged by NGOs and international development organizations.

Ms. Zerin is working as Education expert in educational development and disability sector. She has 14 years’ experience in developing, implementing, and managing complex programs and projects within time and budgetary constraints in Inclusive Education, Early childhood care and education, Non-formal, Formal education with expertise in inclusive education and disability in development. As an educationist and investigator, she was involve is several researches on education, inclusive education and disability issues. She is one of the Thematic Group Member (Education Theme) of the Disability Network “National Forum of Organizations Working for the Disabled (NFOWD)”. She started he career as teacher for special needs children. She has working experiences in several international NGOs and NGOs, such as- Sightsavers-Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind; Helen Keller International (HKI) and Centre for Disability in Development (CDD). She was also a former Member of Participatory Research Group of Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex, UK (As representative of Bangladesh in UN Policy Influence and Advocacy). Nusrat Zerin has directly worked with different departments & ministries of Government of Bangladesh, such as – Directorate of Primary Education under Ministry of Education, Directorate of Higher and Secondary Education under Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Department of Social Services (DSS) under Ministry of Social Welfare, Department of Disaster Management (DDM) and Comprehensive Disaster Management Programme (CDMP) under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief and also with different INGOs and donor agencies. She has trained approx. 9000 school teachers, staff of partner organizations, government education officers and social service officers, community level volunteers, parents & caregivers, children and local govt. representatives on Inclusive education for the children with disabilities (including visually impaired & low vision children) throughout the career in Inclusive education management. She has developed several training curriculums & manuals, IEC materials on education, inclusive education, disaster risk reduction etc. She developed different education teaching learning materials of early childhood age, pre-school and primary level children with disabilities (such as- pre Braille alphabet books, tactile scrapbooks, tactile materials with colour contrast, materials for low vision children etc.). She has several publications. She works with different Disabled People’s Organizations to support them in developing programs.
