Professor Akhtar is working as Senior Professor and Researcher in teaching occupational and environmental health for more than 30 years. Fields of interest are environmental health and occupational health & safety including arsenic contamination, climate change issues, and workers health & safety issues. Organized and conducted a number of researches in the field of environmental health such as arsenic contamination, climate change, salinity in water; air pollution, tobacco smoking, etc and in the field of occupational health, health problems of the worker, musculoskeletal disorders, lead toxicity, noise problem, asbestosis, chromium toxicity, pesticide toxicity etc. Conducted many collaborative researches with Tokyo University, Miyazaki University Kyushu University of Japan, and University of British Columbia, Canada in home and abroad. Conducted researches in Nawalparasi, Nepal, Bahraich, UttarProdesh, India. Published many articles in the national and international journals with high impact factor and contributed in a number of books and reports on environmental health and occupational health. Supervised and guided many theses on environmental and occupational health issues of PhD. MPhil and MPH students. Having working experience as consultant and expert with WHO, ILO, DFID, UNEP, JICA, AAN and ENPHO, Nepal.
